The Story So Far

Skool’s Out was opened by Mandy and Daniel Woolford in 2009 to provide after school care for children from Shakespeare School after both Mandy and Daniel realised there was no after school provision for the school. Mandy and Daniel approached Fr Paul at St Nicholas Church and after agreement from the Parrish Committee Skool’s Out was Opened on 1st September 2009.

Following the opening Mandy and Daniel were approached by St Wulstans Catholic School, St Marys Catholic school and Chaucer Primary school to also provide after school care for their schools . Skool’s Out quickly grew from providing after school care for Shakespeare Primary school to providing Breakfast, After school and Holiday Care to EVERY primary school in Fleetwood.

The rapid growth of Skools Out took Mandy and Daniel by surprise and in 2010 more staff where employed to cater for the growing demand. Skool’s Out now employs 10 full time members of staff and a decision to have to move Skool’s Out from St Nicholas Church Hall was made in the Spring of 2011. Skool’s Out opened at it brand new purpose building on Poulton Road in January 2012 after over £40,00 was spend completely re-designing and restoring the inertia of the old doctors surgery.

Skool’s Inn was opened in 2012 providing Pre school care to children aged 2-4 years with just 5 children. Skool’s Inn has proven popular with the community and now cares for over 25 pre school children full time. Mandy and Daniel are incredibly proud of Skool’s Out/Inn and its team, children and parents who are their inspiration to continue to provide OUTSTASNDING childcare for children aged 2-14 years in Fleetwood.

Skool’s Out/Inn was awarded young business accelerator in 2012 following a campaign in the Fleetwood Weekly News which proves that people outside of the childcare business who were judging the competition could also see the amazing progress Skool’s Out/Inn had made in just 3 years.

Skool’s Out/Inn also won the regional heats of the NatWest Community Force competition which was voted for by the public. Votes were cast by the public to local business/organisation that they felt were doing the most in their community. Skool’s Out/Inn was awarded over £6,000 in prize money which was used to buy computers for the after school club and pre school, seating areas for older children, T.V’s and games consoles, outdoor equipment and storage units. Mandy and Daniel would personally like to thank each and every family who voted for Skool’s Out.

The growth and success of Skool’s Out would not be possible without the dedicated team. Faye Scott who manages both the Pre school and after school club has been at Skool’s Out/Inns growth since September 2009 proving to be inspirations leader. Sally Ross is Skool’s Out/Inn Deputy Manager and has been working in the after school club since 2010 and the pre school since 2012 she too has proven inspirational, creating drive and ambition with all the play workers. The whole team at Skool’s Out/Inn are fully qualified play workers with Diplomas in play work or childhood studies and Mandy and Daniel are incredible proud of them all.

But Skool’s Out/Inn would be nothing without the children, whom challenge the staff daily, whom are always full of ideas, creations and news, who love to get involved in all the planned activities and outings and are the heart and soul of Skool’s Out/Inn. The whole team enjoy looking after and providing care to them all.
